About CubFable

A book where your child is the hero

CubFable makes one picture book at a time, for one child. You give us a name, a photo and an idea. We write the story, you read it and approve it, and then we illustrate it, print it, bind it and post it to your door.

Our promises

What you can count on

You read it before we draw it

The story is written first and sent to you to read in full. If it is not the book you had in mind you can ask for it to be rewritten. Not a single illustration is made until you approve the words.

Painted, never pasted

The photo you upload is only ever a reference. Your child is fully redrawn in the illustration style you picked, so the book looks hand-painted from cover to cover instead of like a face cut out and dropped onto a page.

The price is the whole price

Delivery is free, and it is shown as its own free line on the total so you can see there is nothing waiting to be added at the end.

The photo stays private

Photos of your child are kept in private storage, never on a public web address. Where one has to be shown back to you it is served through a link that expires by itself.

Why we made it

Every picture book is about somebody else

Children work out early that the brave one in the book is never them. It is a rabbit, or a boy with a different name, in a house that is not theirs.

CubFable turns that around. Your child is on the cover and on every page, wearing their own face, doing the brave thing themselves. It is the same book you would read anyway, except that this time it is about them.

That is also why it is printed on paper rather than left on a screen. A book can be carried around, argued over at bedtime, and read until the corners go soft.

How it works

How a book is made

  1. 1

Pick a story, or bring your own

Choose from the catalogue of story ideas, or write your own idea in a sentence and we build the book around it.

  2. 2

    Add your hero

Their name, their age, a line about them, and a photo. Add the people who matter too: a little brother, a grandmother, the dog.

  3. 3

    Read it and say yes

We write the story and you read the whole thing. Approve it, or send it back to be rewritten.

  4. 4

We illustrate, print and post it

Every page is illustrated in the style you chose, then the book is printed, bound and posted to your door. A PDF copy comes with it.

Occasions

For the big first days and the small hard ones

Some books are a present. Others are how a family talks about something difficult without having to find the words first.

Printed and posted

It arrives as a real book

Once the story is illustrated, the book is printed, bound and posted to the address you give at checkout. Delivery is free, and the PDF is yours straight away, so the story can be read at bedtime while the parcel is still on its way.
