The Wagon That Wouldn't Go Home
The child sets out with the little wooden wagon on the simplest errand there is: returning one borrowed cup to the lady next door. But the wagon squeaks to a stop at every gate where somebody needs a hand. Oranges roll downhill and must be chased, a cat supervises from a shed roof and will not come down alone, a parcel is too heavy for a very small grandad. Each stop fills the wagon with thank-you gifts until there is no room left for the cup, and the child has to work out what the squeaky wagon has been teaching them all day: an errand is quick, but helping is what turns a street into a home.
